Bought this May 17th 2024 and have been using it to pound rebar in for political signs since.I have never tried a 20lb version which could possibly be as good or better – maybe, but this seems just right. I previously tried 14 and 16lb post drivers and they were too light and took too much strength and I experienced to much jolt. I am 5’11”, in my 60’s and a pudgy 240lbs.The heavier it is, the more strength it takes to lift it up above my face level to go over the 5 and sometimes 6′ rebar of course, but it more than makes up for it on the down pound. The angled hand holds really help. What I really like about this one, as opposed to the lighter ones which are shorter, is that I normally do not need to raise the bottom of the pounder above the top of the rebar. I have discovered the hard way that it can really hurt when you miss the top of the rebar on the down pound and hit yourself or come close to pulling some muscle. Perhaps long time users may not often make this mistake, but all it takes is – ONCE!If I had a heavier one, it might result in more of the 3/8″ rebar bending because I feel less feedback. If I was pounding in the green metal T posts, I would definitely go with a 20 pounder at the very least.I painted the top of it fluorescent orange so I always know which end is up. Sounds dumb with the angled handle, but when you are moving fast, or getting tired, or haven’t drank enough in this 100 heat in Phoenix or it is in the evening time, it’s easy to get it wrong. After multiple times, it gets time and strength consuming (annoying) having to right it. Plus, we all know which one is mine.
