DEVELOPMENT NEWS
The Padiham Project; Sustrans have won 50 million pounds of lottery funding to further extend the national network. £300,000 is to be allocated to develop a better network of traffic free cycling/walking routes around the Padiham, Burnley area. This is to include the significant coversion of the old railway to connect with Great Harwood. This will open up the area to many more users and provide a traffic free option for walkers,cyclists and horse riders. Find out more at www.sustransconnect2.org.u

BIKE EVENTS CHARITY CHALLENGE RIDES;
CYCLE SPORTIVE EVENTS
Cycle Sportive is base on the mountainous continental events. these are tough, hilly, challenging rides over distance, attracting the fit and experianced cyclists.
Dispite the severity of these events, the popularity is so great that entries are usually full within a few days of availability.
8/6/08 WHITE ROSE CLASSIC
One of the many events that covers the Yorkshire Dales. As ever all the best hill climbs are featured.
28/6/08 YORKSHIRE 100/50km
Back in the Dales again. Starting from Skipton then heading north thropugh Grassington, Halton Gill, Stainforth and Settle. Not quite as grueling as some of the Classics but a demanding challenge, suitable for experianced riders and first timers. fantastic scenery. Easier riding and a gentler optionwith an emphasis on enjoyment on the 50km route.
3/8/08 PENDLE PEDAL
Lovely Lancashire cycling. 160km long around Pendle Hill and the Forest of Bowland, classic hill climbs over into the Lune Valley then back over 'the Trough' and 'the Nick'. Quite tough!
There is also an MTB challenge of 40kms run ar the same time as part if the Pendle Pedal Festival.
RACING EVENTS
TIME TRIALS
Road racing against the clock. Riders perform as indiviuals, setting off at timed intervals. the rider who complets the course in the fastest time is the winner. Known as the 'race of truth' or 'Testing'. A very british form of cycle sport with a strong following. Easy to have a go, and quickly rewarding with a sense of achevement.
NORTH LANCS ROAD CLUB WEDNESDAY 'TEN'
A great local event, open to all. Simple to enter. Ideal for anyone wanting to give it a go. Held each wednesday at 7 o'clock in the evening, 14th of may-2nd july. Registration is in the car park opposite Roefield Leisure Centre (swimming pool) Clitheroe. The course is run on quiet roads between Eddisford Bridge and Bashall eves, undulating with a few ups and downs.
